Your Safety

Our #1 Priority

Lions Laser Vision holds patient safety as our number one priority and supports this goal with ongoing investment in the latest technology.

The history behind our commitment to your safety

The history of Lions Laser Vision has been one of many firsts – the first ever refractive laser centre in Western Australia, the first to perform laser PRK surgery in Australia in 1991, the first to perform LASIK in WA in 1996 and the first accredited laser vision centre in WA.

PRK Laser eye surgery was first performed in in 1988 to reshape the surface of the human cornea in a normally signed human and achieve correction of refractive errors in the eye that normally would require glasses or contact lenses.

Initially the surface of the cornea was lasered to flatten the cornea for correction of short sightedness (myopia). It is now possible to also correct long sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. In 1990 the technique was improved by adding the creation of a flap with the ablation performed under this called LASIK. LASIK is more effective, accurate and more comfortable post-operatively providing visual recovery within 24 hours. LASIK is the gold standard of laser refractive surgery and the second most commonly performed eye operation in the world after cataract surgery.

In 2022 Lions Laser Vision, in another first for Australia, have invested in the latest laser technology, the SCHWIND ATOS femtosecond laser to perform SmartSight.  SmartSight involves the creation of a very thin piece of corneal tissue (lenticule) in the cornea which is then removed through a small incision. SmartSight is a type of Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx). These procedures are very safe, having been around for over 20 years (e.g. ReLEx SMILE). SmartSight is the latest generation of these procedures utilising the latest generation technology and patient safety features.

After performing thousands of procedures over 30 years and continually investing in the latest technology, we are the premier centre for laser vision correction.
