Laser Eye Surgery Cost & Payment Plans

Eye surgery is an investment. When you have laser eye surgery, you’re looking out for your eyesight and overall well-being; saving yourself a lifetime of contact lenses or glasses expenses, plus the convenience and aesthetics of not having to wear external props, while getting improved sight 24/7.

But like all investments, there’s an upfront cost. For many people, the cost of surgery can be difficult to pay. Daily living costs have gone up and Australians’ savings are suffering. We’ve made LASIK eye surgery affordable with different payment options available, so everyone has the opportunity of investing in their eyesight.

Laser Eye Surgery Cost in Australia

The cost of laser eye surgery in Australia can vary depending on the type of procedure you choose and your individual needs.

At Lions Laser Vision, we keep our surgery costs transparent and easy to understand. There’s no need to worry about any hidden costs, follow-up fees, or sneaky extras. It’s a one surgery fee that includes consultations for up to four weeks post-surgery.

When comparing laser eye surgery prices in Australia, it’s important to consider not only the upfront cost but also the long-term benefits and savings. Investing in laser eye surgery can eliminate the ongoing expenses of glasses and contact lenses, providing convenience and improved quality of life.

First Consultation

The cost of your first consultation at Lions Laser Vision is $200. During this appointment we confirm your suitability for surgery and recommend the best type of procedure for you. We also confirm the total cost of surgery.

If you want to be certain that you are suitable for laser eye surgery before having your first consultation, take our online suitability test. Additionally, if you have any enquiries about the suitability test, don’t hesitate to contact one of our clinical coordinators.

LASIK

Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is the most popular form of laser surgery. During LASIK surgery a corneal flap is created so corneal tissue can be removed to change its shape. The flap is returned and begins adhering to the tissue below within minutes without the need for any stitches. LASIK can correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism.

For most people, the cost of LASIK eye surgery is $6,800 for both eyes.

SmartSight

SmartSight uses Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx) which only requires a 3mm incision, much smaller than LASIK’s 23mm cut. This makes recovery faster and reduces the discomfort after the surgery.

SmartSight can treat short-sightedness and astigmatism, but it isn’t suitable for patients who are long-sighted or experience reading difficulties from middle age.

SmartSight laser surgery uses the latest technology, so for most people, the cost is slightly higher at $7,600 for both eyes.

PRK

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) surgery is performed on the cornea surface rather than under a flap. The thin outer layer of the epithelium is removed to reshape the underlying corneal tissue. Within a few days, the epithelium grows back over the corneal surface.

Lions Laser Vision is the only Perth clinic to offer TransPRK, which is the latest technology required to perform this type of laser eye surgery. Recovery is usually slower and may require more time away from work but there are few complications with PRK.

PRK isn’t as popular as LASIK or SmartSight eye surgery but can be the best option for some people who have thin corneas, have problems with the surface of the cornea, or have had laser eye surgery in the past.

The technology involved and individual circumstances means PRK doesn’t have a set pricing. Your surgeon will provide you with the cost for PRK during the first consultation.

Which Method of Eye Surgery Should I Choose?

If you’re unsure which is the best method of laser eye surgery for you, take our online suitability test to find out. You will answer a series of questions about your eyesight and lifestyle to determine the best laser option available. Moreover, during the first consultation with one of our professionals, you’ll be advised which method is the most suitable for your eyes.

Health Insurance Rebates

Only a small number of Australian health funds offer a rebate for laser eye surgery. However, it’s only available on the top level of health cover and there are often long waiting periods. For many hospital procedures the usual waiting period is of 12 months, but for laser eye surgery this can turn into a 3-year waiting period.

If you’re considering taking out health insurance before having the laser eye surgery, weigh up the costs considering the time you’ll have to wait until you can have surgery. The costs will include:

  • Top health insurance premiums for the waiting period
  • Purchasing contact lenses or glasses
  • The inconvenience of putting off surgery

If you think you’re eligible for rebate with your health insurance provider, contact them to confirm the suitability. Your fund will be able to provide advice on waiting times for rebate and the possible out of pocket expenses before proceeding with surgery.

Medicare Rebates

Unfortunately, none of the fees for laser eye surgery can be claimed through Medicare.

Eye Surgery Payment Plans

To ease the cost of paying for laser eye surgery, at Lions Laser Vision, we offer payment plans. This allows our clients to split out the cost of their surgery over several months rather than paying the full cost up-front.

We use humm90 payment plans because it’s an interest free option* with no deposit to pay. There are no early payout fees for paying extra at any time, and the $99 annual fee is payable. We strongly advise you to do your research to decide which finance option is right for you. Once you have selected plan, we can help you with the application process.

Clients also have the option of paying for treatment via cash, EFTPOS credit card, or bank cheque.

Surgery costs are due on the day of the procedure or just prior.
